Mirror's Edge

Photobucket

Unique: Let me preface this post by saying Mirror's Edge is one of the most important games of this console generation. Not only is this one of the freshest feeling games to come out in the past 5 years, but it holds unforeseen significance in the competitive scene. I think with the implementation of minor tweaks this can be the first good (for technicalities) none versus competitive game which can be played seriously as an e-sport. It can be compared in a similar fashion to how the 100 meter sprint is a sporting event in track and field.

Difficulty: Strictly speaking from a skill perspective, this game is extremely difficult to platinum. In fact, if you use this site http://ps3trophycard.com/ to check the top 10 trophy holders, only 1 of the top 10 have this trophy complete. This game's speed trials and time trials require a tremendous amount of focus and concentration. It took me approximately 50 hours to hit platinum. However, depending on your skill level I can see this game taking anywhere from 40-90 hours.

General Tips: There are trophies that will require for you to play through the game two times, once on a normal difficulty and once on hard difficulty. First, I suggest going through the story mode on both difficulties so you can familiarize yourself with the machanics and physics of the game. Remember to not kill anyone with a weapon in one of the run-throughs. After you have acquired all the story mode trophies, I would move on to the time trials trophies.

-Time Trials: These will take a lot of repetition and patience to accomplish. The easiest way to go about doing this is YouTubeing world record runs for the particular time trial you are working on. This particular user's channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/pzypherx) has about every time trial and world record. Every time trial stage has 1-3 key short cuts that will give you a 2 or 3 star rating so keep a look out for those key shortcuts. Some jumps, especially in world record runs, are very hard to do consistantly and are not necessary to attain a 3 star rating. Pick and choose your short cuts wisely.

-Speed Runs: The reason I recommended time trails first is that it uses sections from the story levels that you can now...probably do with your eyes closed. When you get to those sections you will have practiced them so much that it will make the target time much easier to achieve. Again, use a general search on YouTube for speed runs and pick out those huge shortcuts that will shave off seconds to complete the run.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

Photobucket

Difficulty: This has been the easiest platinum trophy that I have acquired. I would give this an "easy" rating based on time invested and ease of trophy requirements. There is one exception, a trophy by the name of "Yatta!", which requires you to complete the game Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. This is a game of skill (and some luck), similar to Tetris, and is not a trophy that you will eventually acquire if you invest a lot of time (like a large portion of trophies in any game).

Convenience: This platinum will clock in around 12-18 hours. I completed it in 14 hours with a big chunk of time spent on Dr. Robotnik's M.B.M. All trophies but one, will not demand that you play through the whole game, so once you finish that particular trophy you can switch games. In fact, some games you will only be playing for five minutes to acquire its corresponding trophy. One thing that should be noted (for the Play All Genesis Titles and Play All Arcade Titles trophies) is that just lunching the game actually counts it as being played. Sonic's Ultimate Collection is probably the most straight forward platinum I have encountered so you should not have much trouble with its trophies.

General Tips: In addition to Dr. Robotnik's M.B.M, the Vectorman 2 trophy (Can you dig it? - Reach scene 11) can be a little difficult and cause some frustration. If you wish to make things a little easier in Vectorman 2, you can change the difficulty option to easy, which will grant you more lives and hit points. Additionally, when you pick up x3, x5, or x10 power ups this counts for lives as well. If you are having difficulty in certain stages, one option that can be used is locating a free life power up and going back to it when you have one of the multiplier power ups.

Bioshock

Photobucket

Difficulty: I would have to say the overall difficulty of this platinum is "moderately difficult". The achievements themselves are not particularly difficult, however, the first half of the game will test your gaming skills but as you become stronger the second half of the game is quite easy.

Convenience: The best thing about this platinum trophy is that it can be achieved through one complete play through. Depending on how well you deal with the difficulty this trophy will clock in around 20-30 hours. It took me approximately 23 hours.

The Set Up: If you want to complete this platinum in one play through select the "survivor" difficulty and when the game starts turn off the vita-chamber machine through the options menu. All that is left now is acquiring the rest of the trophies through the survivor difficulty setting.

Tricky Trophies: There are four trophies I found particularly tricky and can be missed if you are not paying attention or do not act accordingly.

-Research PHD (Max out all possible research): Maxing out all possible research also includes the different type of cameras and security devices (such as flying bots). If you destroy all cameras before maxing the research on cameras then you will miss this trophy.
-Found Cohen's Room (The player has entered Sander Cohen's personal quarters): When Cohen reveals his completed masterpiece DO NOT KILL HIM. Later in the game there will be two dancing splicers that Cohen is admiring and you will need to kill them for him to come out of his chambers. If you kill him before this scene then you cannot enter his chambers.
-Weapons Specialist (Acquire all upgrades for all weapons): This trophy coincides with the one listed above. There is a weapons upgrade machine in his room that will be required for achieving this trophy.
-Historian (Collect all audio diary): There are two audio diaries, New Year's Eve Alone and Hole in the Bathroom Wall, that you must obtain before going to the medical pavilion because you cannot backtrack if you miss these diaries.

All other trophies are self explanatory.

General Tips: Like I have mentioned before, the first half of this game is difficult, mainly because of the big daddies so save OFTEN. Secondly, stock pile electric ammo for the shotgun because it immobilizes the big daddies for about one second. Because of this immobilization, if you time it correctly you can unload an entire clip without the big daddies moving. I found it to be the easiest way to deal with them, so I recommend fully upgrading the shogun first and not wasting any electric ammo until you confront big daddies.

If you have any questions or trouble with any of the trophies in this game feel fee to drop a line. Thanks!

Introduction: What's This Blog About

Photobucket

This will be an informative blog about the completion of platinum trophies for the Playstation 3 console. The information given will vary depending on the games. You can generally expect to see tips on tricky trophies, the fastest way to achieve completion, the amount of time spent on trophies, and anything else I find relavent to share. I will be publishing posts after finishing the game I am working on, however, since I have completed several games already I will be diligent in posting about the games I have finished.

In gaming communities and amongst friends I am known as HeaT, but since HeaT was already taken I had to use the name HeaTFury for my PS3 tag. If you have any questions feel free to message me through the PS3 account or leave comments on this blog and I will get back to you in a timely manner.
